Race Day information
Venue

Registration from 8.30am - 9.30am in the Skyline Staff Car Park
Registrations will be at the tent
Follow the arrows to drive behind the Gondola Base Building. Please be early to avoid a last minute rush!!
Do not be late – registrations close 9.30am and you will not be admitted into the race without a race number.
If you have changes to the team or are unable to race please let me know as soon as you can before race day.

Race briefing at 9.30am
All racers will need to be present. Race briefing will be in the pit lane area.

Race start 10am
You will get 6hrs and one lap.

Pit lane
Each team or racer will be allocated an area marked out in the pit lane / transition area. The pit lane will be part of the race track and where teams transition. These will be allocated on a first in, best spot basis - so be early. Team members will need to pass the ‘baton’

What to bring
A bike that will get you to the end of a 6hr race- the Super D format is neither a DH or XC race but something in-between - the ideal bike is a 4-6inch travel all-mountain bike
Be warned - there is some uphill.

Bring parts that you may need – there is a bike shop on the mountain and Outside Sport will have a mechanic on duty with supplies during the day, but be sure to bring anything that may break - hangers, brake pads, tyres and tubes.
Eyes wear goggles or glasses.

Protection –injury
I strongly recommend some form of knee protection!!!

Food and water
This is a tough race and you will need plenty of food to get through the 6hrs.
We will have food and coffee available in the pit lane -

Shelter
Be prepared for hot and cold and windy.. Some type of shelter or clothing for when you’re not racing is a must. Easy ups or tents are ideal.

After the race
Prize giving will be about 5.00pm Skyline Restaurant

The Course for the SUPER D ENDURO

The Course
The course covers 7km down and up. Final design is yet to be done but the course will be designed to give ‘downhill riders’ and cross-country riders’ equal chances at being first at the end of the day.

Downhill sections will use Hammy’s Trail and perhaps some small sections of single track. Uphills will include road and some technical climbing.

At the end of the Hammy’s Trail riders cross straight into the Skyline staff parking into the support village and pit lanes with the track taking every competitor past every ‘pit’ on each lap.

Tag your team member, exchange the transmitter to release them on the track.

Each lap is expected to take 20 mins ie the maximum no of laps will be about 12

Times will be taken at the gondola gate ie as you enter the gondola system, an as you leave the board walk at the top. ie only downhill riding times count.

Notes to the SUPER D

Queenstown Sports SUPER D
16th April

Notes to the SUPER D Checkout Mon 28th February
In early January the Resource Consent application was made for two events in the Queenstown Bike Festival. The DirtMasters and the Outside Sports SUPER D. The application contains safety plans, operational plans etc etc........, but I also drew then a course map. This map, a educated guess at the time, will end up being very close to the actual course.

The final course design is yet to be done but it is for sure that a lot of the downhilling section will be on the Hammy’s Trail created by Skyline. How this is mixed with the uphill sections is yet to be decided, but today we checked out a uphill section on the Skyline road, another downhill section on Vertigo and a old uphill trail called Huckit. This is a interesting uphill climb on single track - all rideable. So the formulae is in place, it is just trying now to get the mix exactly right.

Today Jim Hawkridge (Outside Sports) and I checked out some of the course and a rough video of it is on YOUTUBE at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ejFLk0b3ry8

Operations
The Skyline Gondola has assured us of every second car for the duration of the 6hrs and there will be no other bikers able to use the gondola.

Timing is going to be done at the end and start of each run, so it will be the racing time that will count.

Full information will be on the web site http://www.queenstownbikefestival.co.nz prior to the opening of entries on the 15th March.

Note: this is not the Brake Burner but a new event called the Outside Sports SUPER D ENDURO.
